Electro spinning of Nano fibers

Electrospinning technique

What is electrospinning?

The electrospinning technique is the simplest method among other techniques to make nanofibers. In this technique, droplets from polymer solutions come out and then stretched up to nanoscale and then collected on a collector plate.

Major components and basic principle of electrospinning technique.

The major components are: a) A high voltage power supply, b) an injection pump with needle and c) a collector plate.

In the electrospinning principle, at first polymer solution is taken into a syringe. A high voltage power supply (around 30 - 40 KV) is connected with both to the injector and the collector plate. When droplets come out fro the injector due to the very high voltage the droplet loses surface tension, forms a Taylor cone and then highly stretched to the nanoscale. At the same time, they are attracted to the collector plate which must have to be a conductive one.

Applications

Filtration, biomedical application like tissue engineering, composite development, etc.
